This little cottage is in the heart of the magical Forêt de Huelgoat in Brittany, one of those Celtic countries where you can practically reach out and touch the Otherworld.
The Forest is a fragment of the ancient Forêt de Broceliande, in which so many of the Grail myths and legends are set. This is one of the most inspiring places in Europe.
It’s a perfect writers’ retreat with the forest ‘proper’ at two minutes’ walk, and the lakeside town of Huelgoat a few minutes’ drive, or a 45-minute stroll through the lovely forest with its huge granite boulders, rivers and streams, and deciduous trees. Close by is a café and arts venue, with wifi (the cottage is largely techno-free). It’s easily accessible via Brittany Ferries’ Plymouth to Roscoff route.
It’s available occasionally to other writers at an affordable rent, with priority given to people who’ve attended Fire in the Head or The Wild Ways courses.
