It’s a wonderful thing when a publisher announces your book is ready ahead of time. My latest book A Trick of the Light – poems from Iona collects together between two covers the many poems I’ve written in my 18 years of leading annual retreats on the sacred Isle of Iona, and one or two from visits prior to that. Pindrop Press says that publication date is the very end of December 2017, with copies being sent out soon after that.
I’m really excited about this collection, as Iona is very close to my heart. You can read reviews and order the book on the above link.
The first event in 2018 is a one-day new year workshop I’ve been leading since oooh way back in the last century. THRESHOLDS offers you inspiring time out to reflect on the year past and the year to come, with guided prompts from me. It’s Sunday 28th January in Totnes, South Devon.
There are other one-day events on the same link (scroll down), and I’m leading a 2-hour mindfulness walk in the beautiful woodland garden of Agatha Christies’ former home on the Dart, where I was until recently writer-in-residence, near Brixham in South Devon, on February 28th. (You can read my concluding essay on the writer and the spirit of place here.)
There will also be a novelists’ bootcamp (scroll down) in 2018, probably over two weekends, for a small group.
The ISLANDS OF THE HEART retreats on the beautiful Isle of Iona in April 2018: the first group, for returners only, has one place available. The second is full; a waiting list for cancellations is available. Please contact me if you’d like more info.
The next residential retreat in 2018 will be June’s The Land’s Wild Magic, a week of pilgrimage-type walks and writing by the coast in West Cornwall. We visit holy wells and ancient and sacred sites, which are prolific in this area, my homeland. There are a few places still available on what is a rather special week.
We’re already taking bookings for my 4th? 5th? year of Writing the Bright Moment in September in the remote and beautiful Cévennes mountains of southern France. This is a week of deep restoration with luscious food, hammocks, sunshine, a waterfall pool and oh yes a great deal of writing: prose, poetry, and nature-writing.
And I’m delighted to be offering The Wellkeepers, on a subject about which I’m passionate – basically, restoring the true balance between men and women, and our ancient covenant with land, the other-than-human, and the wild – as a residential, also probably in West Cornwall, in 2018. Date tba.
